“From pre-production, to filming, to editing, Queen of Hearts has been such a rewarding and inspiring project that I’ve been honored to be a part of. Brooke has been one of my best friends since the first day I arrived at SCAD and after our freshman year, I witnessed her experience the unimaginable. Being young, you truly don’t think these types of things can happen to you, and for the first time, it really sunk in that life is fragile. We only get ONE. How are we going to spend it?
Throughout this whole experience, these thoughts have stuck with me. As a filmmaker, I hope to make an impact through the stories I tell, and the art I create. Editing is like putting together a puzzle, and I’ve been so grateful to be able to take Brooke’s experience, and those of all of her closest family members and friends and piece them together into such a poignant story.
Brooke’s journey is heartbreaking, yet uplifting, and a true testament to the power of determination, courage, and resilience. It’s a journey of overcoming trauma and using it as a springboard to creating something beautiful out of something so tragic. Over the past 2 years, everybody involved in this project has put their everything into making sure Brooke’s story is shared in the best, most authentic way possible. I couldn’t be more proud of our entire team and this film, and I can’t wait for the world to hear the incredible story of Brooke Sturgis.”
